Brief 2 - Research: 20 Photographs

The top three are photos which already exist as drawings so it is not something I could capture myself. I feel these are relevant for showing cards and the history behind them. It doesn't necessarily have to be an image I've captured to fit in with my other pieces of research.

A crib board mid scoring.

Real spades to represent the suit - spades.

A glass in the shape of a goblet to represent the old pips used - goblets, coins, swords and polo sticks.

Focusing on the sword of the soldier to link back to how swords were used originally on cards.
Or how three of the kings in the pack are armed with a sword.

The axe to symbolise "the man with the axe" otherwise known as the king of diamonds.

The eagle to represent the 1935 suit introduced in America of a green eagle.

Poker chips to represent this side of gambling and risk.
Used as a focus for German cards rather than spades.
Queen of clubs is known as the "flower queen".
