A necessity for both physical & mental health
Our lungs love to breathe delicious fresh air as it revitalizes our minds and bodies. But unfortunately, most of us don't get the optimal amount of fresh air needed. When air is breathed several times a day, as when many people are in a confined area, the air loses it's vitality, and impurities may be breathed in again and again. Our work places, home, and sleeping areas should be well ventilated with fresh air.
So what makes air "fresh", anyway?
Dr. Bernell Baldwin pointed out that fresh air is chemically different than the re-circulated indoor air that most people breathe. High quality fresh air is actually electrified - the oxygen molecule is negatively charged. Below are some of the benefits from this negatively charged oxygen:
* improved sense of well being
* tranquilization & relaxation
* decreased survival of bacteria & viruses in the air
* improved function of the lung's protective cilia
* lower body temperature
Research shows that fresh air "helps keep our moods buoyant and positive". Good quality air can be found in abundance around natural outdoor environments. So head outside to God's beautiful creation! Below are a few ideas on where to go so that you can fill your lungs with healthful fresh air:

* seashore - beach
* visit you local state park
* walk along a river
* anywhere away from the city * forests
* kayak around a lake
* hike up a mountain
* relax in a meadow
While you are out in a natural area, breathe deep!!! There is great value in deep breathing. Throughout the day, the lungs should be filled completely with fresh air. Take a long deep breath and hold it in for 10 seconds and then blow as much of the air out as you possibly can. Repeat this a few times. Make a habit of deep breathing several times a day.
Destroyers of Fresh Air
The natural freshness of air is destroyed by tobacco smoke, city smog, re-circulating air in buildings, improper ventilation, exhaust, and many other pollutants.
"Neglect of proper ventilation is responsible for much of the drowsiness and dullness that destroy the effect of many a sermon and make the teacher's work toilsome and ineffective."
Ministry of Healing p. 274-275
Some of the bad side affects from a lack of fresh air are caused by a lack of oxygen to the brain, and they are as follows:
* fatigue * drowsiness * dullness of mind * irritability
So if you're feeling any of the above symptoms, if possible, open a window, take a short walk outside, and drink a big glass of water. Ventilate your office or house with fresh air frequently! Take the time to breathe freely the revitalizing, invigorating fresh air that our wonderful God created for our benefit!
