Five Problems with LCA 2013-2014 Booklet

  1. The layout of the text and sheer amount of body text on each page makes for a dull read and is not at all inspiring creativity, it is more aimed to a corporate aspect rather than students.

2. The fact that they have created a font for Leeds College of Art is a good idea with potential. However the fact that it isn't finished and they have poorly tried to match the inside headers with their font doesn't look good nor does it reflect well on the college. I think the worst part of this is the A in Art where the bottom left serif is flicked at an angle and doesn't follow suit.

3. The use of a pale yellow on the border/ bleed line of the pages along with using it to create hardly recognisable background shapes seems bazar and pointless.

4. The use of hexagons on the front and throughout the book tie the book together and allow it to follow in the same design pattern but it doesn't have any basis to it. It is meant to represent the mosaic tiles but this is a loose and unrecognisable link

5. The posters stapled randomly in the middle of the book could have been a nice touch is the poster was the same size if not bigger than the book itself. The 'inspiring' words printed on an inappropriate material have been cut off at the top and the bottom, maybe to give the impression of the never ending list of inspiration or most probably poor design.
