These two pieces are eye catching because of their use of bright colour and no formality. There is no schedule or pattern to the lay out. The more you look the more you spot - this concept would work well in the alphabet as it could play around with not having the whole letter viewable or in an abstract form and the longer you looked the more you would see and understand. However that may not work for a typeface who's main aim is body copy.
The line variation works well having some pieces a lot thinner that others. This leads your eye around to the central area. The chunkier instruments are filled with intriguing colours to keep your attention.
